Jennifer Hua Lan – Founder and President
Young Artists School of Piano is founded by Jennifer Hua Lan who has received her music education in the Arts College of Jilin, China. After serving for 10 years in China's Central Ensemble of National Music in Beijing, Jennifer Hua Lan immigrated to Canada in 1989. She continued her piano studies with Prof. Douglas Voice at the University of Ottawa. In 1996, with the support of Prof. Douglas Voice as the Honorary Music Director, she founded the Centerpointe Music Academy which since then became one of the leading private music institutions of the Capital region. Young Artists School of Piano is a new addition to the life of CMA to meet the growing expectations of young piano students from the region of Ottawa.
Zabel Manoukian – Music Director
Born in Istanbul, Zabel Manoukian holds degrees in piano performance from the Music Conservatory of Istanbul, Turkey - with Ferdi Statzer, McGill University's Faculty of Music, Montreal, Canada - with Dorothy Morton and Nordwestdeutsche Musikakademie, Detmold, Germany – with Hanns-Ulrich Kunze. Her studies continued in New York, USA with Nadia Reisenberg (Juilliard).
Recipient of three Canada Council Awards and winner of several competitions in Canada and abroad, Zabel Manoukian has taught piano at McGill University, Faculty of Music. She has also taught Master Classes in Canada and been a member of the jury for festivals and piano competitions.
For the last 30 years Mrs. Manoukian has performed as a concert pianist throughout Canada, Germany and Istanbul. She has performed as a soloist with orchestras, played chamber music with international musicians on various stages and recently at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Over the last 20 years she has also performed on numerous occasions for CBC Radio. Mrs. Manoukian recently released a solo piano CD titled "Echoes from the Mystery of Childhood".
